The PIA-S is a PED Interface Adapter. PED stands for Personal Electronic Device, e.g. a tablet computer or an iPad. The PIA shows selected views of video streams available at on board of a helicopter and being processed by the Video Processing Module (VPM). The App on the PED allows the operator to select predefined views and/or cameras, while it will also allow to interact with the VPM to e.g. alter zoom-areas within an image. The PIA adapts the SMPTE 292/424M stream as provided by the VPM to video-out format acceptable at the tethered iPad. The iPad itself sends commands thru the App to the PIA. These signals are communicated to the VPM to prompt the required image composition for the iPad. The PED is charged while connected to PIA thru a USB-C connector with screw-lock provisions. The unit is powered by standard 28Vdc aircraft supply. A MIL-STD 38999 connector carries: Power and ARINC429/RS422 command I/O. The video interface to the VPM is a HD-BNC connector.
